We should propagate new techniques in orchid farming to empower people financially, said Gen Singh, while introducing four new varieties of orchids in the Raj Bhavan Orchid House. The orchids were brought from Singapore.
Calling upon the forest officials to be proactive in their approach, Gen Singh asked them to impart training to the villagers on orchid and propagation and while adding that technologies should not be confined to the laboratories only.
Instead of traditional jhuming, people of Mizoram are going for cultivation of gerbera and other exotic plants with good returns, Gen Singh said.
Our objective will not be achieved, if people do not avail benefit from it. He asked the officials to distribute seedlings to the farmers.
Team of officials from State Forest Research Institute, Chimpu led by Orchodologist Dr. A.N. Rao along with Research Assistant Ratan Perme and Technical Assistant Kara Serbi Rab is helping the introduction of the exotic varieties. Dr. Rao pointed that the varieties are not available in the country and are of latest assortment.
As desired by the Governor, half of the new orchids, approximately 100 seedlings will be given to Orchid center, Tippi for propagation.

The Department of Environment and Forest, Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh has established an Orchid Research and Development Station at Tippi in West Kameng district for propagation and conservation of these species. This centre has established a laboratory for orchid seeds and tissue culture for this purpose. Prior to the last adjournment, Petroleum minister Murli Deora rejected the demands for roll back and said the suggestions would be considered "suitably" if there is a fall in the international crude prices.
"In view of the continuous rise in global crude prices, a marginal increase had become unavoidable," he argued and said the petrol price was raised by "only" Rs four against Rs 6.9 as desired and diesel price by "only" Rs two against Rs 4.11 "keeping in mind the interests of 'aam aadmi' (common man)."
He said the retail prices of PDS kerosene and LPG were not increased by the government for which the projected subsidy burden amounted to Rs 30,000 crore.

AAPSU writes to APPSC
ITANAGAR, July 02: All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) in a memorandum submitted to the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission chairman said that the Commission has to be proactive and conduct the APPSC examination annually in the line of UPSC examination. The union further said with changing times and hundreds of students passing out every year such examination will inculcate the spirit of competition amongst the students and the scope to churn out better administrators will also increase. The union urged the Commission to initiate suitable steps to materialize the genuine demands of the students’ community of the state.
Lower Dibang Valley takes precaution against Swine Flu

has been set up in the district to monitor and check any outbreak of the Swine Flu
in the district. As no indigenous strain of virus was detected in India the disease
can only infected through the outsiders. Therefore, various precautionary measures
like check gate should be alerted, tour operator should give the list of visitors
to the govt., any foreigner or outsiders should be medically check and quarantine
for 8 days before coming into the state as the incubation period of virus is 1-
He, however said that there is no need of culling of pigs and pork meat are absolutely safe if properly cooked as the disease spread from man to man and pigs has nothing to do with the disease.
Laeta Umbrey, local legislator in his addressed to the house has asked the District Medical Team to disseminate the information through panchayat leaders to the villagers regarding Swine Flu and its dos and don’ts so that they are well informed about the disease and don’t get panic over unnecessary rumours. Lauding the initiative taken by the department he said that the awareness camp has cleared many doubts on the disease that is spreading fast and we need to remain vigilant and alert to keep our district free from infection. He also announced to provide fund for the purchase of Dust Bins for the District Hospital considering the financial crunch of the department.
Y W Ringu, Deputy Commissioner of the district has appealed to the people to prepare ourselves for the worse of the situation if arise. Quoting a proverb, “Knowledge is Power” she said that we must be well informed and get acquaintance with knowledge about the disease and be ready to fight any eventualities without panicking as “little knowledge is a dangerous things”, she quoted again. However, she asked the SP Roing to sensitize the check gate and properly monitor entry of any outsider in to the district. She also called upon the denizens of the district to keep one self and the surroundings hygienic and clean which is the best way to avoid infection of any disease.
Dr M.Ch. Gogoi, District Surveillance Officer dealt at length on the mode of spread, signs & symptoms and treatment & control of the disease. He informed that one Isolation Room is kept in ready in the District Hospital if any case is detected as the disease is highly contagious. (DIPRO)

TEZU, July 2: Due to unprecedented rain in Lohit since last Friday, water level of Lohit and its tributaries is flowing above danger level. Due to heavy discharge of floodwater in Digaru, road communication in between Tezu to Tinsukia and Tezu to Sunpura has been badly affected.
There are reports of landslide in many locations in between Tohangam-
Electricity supply was also disrupted badly. Authorities fear that if rains continue then the lone Bailey bridge connecting Sunpura and 32 Mile and other nearby villages to Tezu might collapse.
Drinking water sources of Shivajinagar, Drai and Durranala were also affected.
Tankers of PHED, BRTF and ITBP were pressed into service for supply of drinking water at Tezu Township, Danglat village and other adjioning villages.
District Administration is geared up to face any flood like situation. Deputy Commissioner Kaling Tayeng has alerted all the members of District Disaster Management Committee and outpost administration officers to keep strict vigil on flood situation and submit daily reports to the District Disaster Management Cell.
Search and Rescue Teams have been formed and relief camps were also identified.
He directed all the administrative centres to activate control room.
Emergency control room at District Hospital has also been established with Rapid mobile medical team to respond to any emergencies.
Authorities concerned have also been suggested to keep buffer stock of medicines, food items and essential commodities in all units in the district.
Meanwhile BRTF authorities made necessary arrangement to restore road communication on war footing to keep the route through.
DIPRO adds from Roing: Dambuk has again fallen prey of nature’s fury at the very
onset of monsoon. The main irrigated paddy field area “IPROM” and adjoining areas
located at 6 km from the Sub-
Sisiri River, known as Sorrow of Dambuk is in spate. Due to increase in water level, a tributary has made it ways into the agricultural field and inundated the paddy fields, informed Kaling Saring, a progressive farmer of Remi Village whose main family agricultural field was flooded yesterday.
He sadly narrated over the phone that apart from paddy fields, Apna Van and Bamboo plantations measuring about 233 hectares land is affected by flood water. Fearing drowning of man and animals due to rapid increase of water volume, many farmers have shifted their agricultural labours and working bullocks to other safer places.
Another farmer informed that flood water level has risen depositing huge quantities of sands, gravels and boulders on its way eroding and silting many fields on its way. If the rains continue to fall it may cause more severe damage and will engulf many fields affecting the rice productivity of the area greatly. The people fear greatly that the floods if not control would affect many households whose livelihood wholly depends on agriculture.
The affected farmers called for govt intervention to initiate necessary remedial measures at the earliest possible to control the situation and a least to mitigate the grievances. (DIPRO)

Director RWD gets Soil Conservation leadership Award

KK unit AAPWU calls for head counting
ITANAGAR, July 02: Kurung Kumey unit of All Arunachal Pradesh Workers Union president has requested all block presidents and secretaries of Koloriang, Sangram, Nyapin and Palin to start head counting of labourers in the district from July 4 to 25 next.
The decision was taken after reported information was received that departmental officers are misusing labourers and bogus labourers in the district, the president said.
After head counting the report will be submitted to the state government so that appropriate and necessary action can be taken against corrupt and erring officers.
AAPHWS requests for issue of genuine certificate
ITANAGAR July 02: All Arunachal Pradesh Handicapped Welfare Society (AAPHWS) in a letter to the General Hospital Naharlagun Standing Medical board CMO cum chairman informed that there has been a mistake in issue of disable certificate by the Standing Medical Board to one Okan Sitek.
The society said that the board declared him 40% disability by combining the 30% disability in amputation of wrist and 10% disability in low vision.
Due to issue of such certificate a genuine person suffering from blind vision category has been deprived of his reservation rights, the society further claimed.

Madam,
In response to letters written by Panchayat leaders and NGOs leveling charges of misusing the ALSU forum, I would like to clarify the matter through yours readers’ forum that I have no any personal enmity with Sunjay Tassar and therefore, I don’t find any reason of tarnishing his image for my personal gains.
There is enough evidence on his personal misdeeds and ineligibility which has been collected by the law students through RTI. Being a senor citizen of the state, instead of craving for the post so much, it would have been more appreciable, if he relinquishes the post.
I have no doubt on credibility and ability of Mr Sanjay to work, but being already chairman once, he should not put undue pressure for appointment against a post which requires enough qualification. The voice of panchayat leaders is really uncalled for, as there is no relevance of panchayat regulation with pollution control rules.
Further, when documentary evidence is available against Sanjay Tassar there is no question of misusing premier Law Student Union. Besides, ALSU executive members already resolved ‘to bring justice before the eye of citizens’.

Who take responsibility of stinking toilet and non working clock!
Madam,
The Capital District administration really deserves appreciation for taking up the civic programmes for the convenient of general public in the capital city. One such good thing comes under the programme is the construction of the pay and use latrine at Ganga Market.
But we fail to understand as to why the centre of the Market place was chosen for this purpose. Is it hygienic? Who will responsible for foul smell, if any, due to lack of maintenance? Will cleanliness be maintained regularly ?
Secondly, the clock tower situated there remains as a tower with useless clock. We met the forest officials and officials of art and culture department, but still we can not understand which department is responsible for maintenance of the clock and the tower.
We request the administration to look into the matter seriously.
